Our Story - A Personal Note

Hi there! I’m Jacinta, founder of Light of Mine.

Thank you for your interest in the organization! We’re fairly new to the scene, so let’s start with introductions.

A little about me:

As long as I can remember, I’ve always had a soft spot for service. With every opportunity, I was ready and willing to jump in and help those in need. Over the years, this quality has influenced my academic interests, and led me to pursue professional and volunteer roles in nonprofit organizations and healthcare. Ultimately, my goal is to make a lasting impact in people’s lives.

As a biology student at Oakwood University, we were given the charge to “Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve”. Throughout my graduate training at The George Washington University, we were commissioned to be public health leaders, to step up, and address health inequities head-on. After all these years, the instructions from both institutions have stuck with me. There are hundreds of nonprofits, foundations, and “do-gooders” in the world, but our communities still have significant needs that are going unmet, and individuals falling through the holes of safety nets. So I’ve decided to start something of my own. My educational background, professional training, and personal experiences have all prepared me for a such a time as this.

About Light of Mine:

Light of Mine was created in 2021 as a way to help solve complex public health issues by addressing the root of the problem. We’re not here to re-invent the wheel, but to hone in on what’s missing, fill the gaps, and ultimately break down the revolving problems of our society.

The approach is to do that through partnership, ingenuity, and innovation. We are into doing “good works”. This can be done through formal programs or a pop-up community event. Our key characteristics align best with those of a social enterprise: mission-driven, revenue-generating, and maximum re-investment.

We all carry our own light. We all have God-given talents and valuable assets to share that can be used in ways never experienced before. Light of Mine strives to push limits and challenge the status quo. This is hard work, but not impossible. It is my hope that people see true change and feel a genuine sense of relief after an encounter with us.

    We donate items, host community service projects, and provide essential resources — all at no cost and no expectation of payment from those receiving services.

  • Light of Mine, LLC is based in Atlanta, GA, but our goal is to have a footprint worldwide. Because we partner with other organizations, we can provide services just about anywhere. We go where the need is!

  • Yes! We partner with companies, agencies, and organizations to support community programs and help expand their reach.
